Showdown on the Sabine

Formula 1 speedboats will once again be racing down the Sabine River in Orange at speeds of more than 115 mph at the eighth annual Showdown on the Sabine, which covers three days beginning Friday, Sept. 18, through Sunday, Sept. 20, at the City of Orange Boat Ramp at 1000 Simmons Drive.

This year’s event will include food and craft booths, an adult beverage booth and pit passes to enter the race area, and several children’s activities. Admission is free, as well as parking.

Powerboat racers from all over the United States will converge on the Sabine River on Sept. 19-21 for the seventh annual S.P.O.R.T. Tunnel Boat Race.

The weekend of speed and thrills will include a trial run Friday, Sept. 19, from 3-6 p.m. with a free concert by the American Sons to follow from 7-9 p.m. at the City of Orange Riverfront Pavilion.

Rocketing across the waves of the Sabine River in excess of 115 mph with water spraying the windshield, hindering your sight, you rapidly approach a buoy to turn on a dime at G-force speeds.
