Former Vidor Independent School District teacher Sondra Reed now faces criminal prosecution for engaging in what prosecutors say was an improper relationship between the educator and a student.

The indictment was filed June 25 in the 128th District Court, and Orange County District Attorney John Kimbrough signed off that the case is ready for trial on June 26.

The Vidor Independent School District board of trustees is set to act on the previously approved termination of former elementary school educator Sondra Reed and on the resignation of her husband, former VISD Junior High teacher Chad Reed, at their regular meeting on Thursday, March 27, at 6 p.m.

Two former Vidor Independent School District teachers, a husband and wife first on paid administrative leave and now facing termination amid allegations of sexual misconduct and providing alcohol to minors, are preparing for upcoming appeal hearings with the Texas Education Agency.

The Vidor Independent School District board voted to terminate two teachers at a meeting Monday night, Jan. 20, amid accusations of inappropriate conduct with students. The couple had been on paid administrative leave since Dec. 20, 2013.

The terminations of VISD teachers Chad and Sondra Reed passed unanimously and, police say, criminal charges are pending.
