Southeast Texas Oilers youth football team

The Southeast Texas Oilers youth football team volunteered at the Giving Field on Liberty Street in Beaumont on March 15.

Twelve team members as well as several board members, coaches, and parents harvested 14 pounds of kale, which is enough to feed 56 people in need, Giving Field founder Sharon Begnaud explained to the volunteers.

The team also gathered eggs from the coop and planted beans.

The Beaumont Bulls youth football team’s season ended early in October 2016 after their head coach was fired following the team’s kneeling protests, but many former players banded together and created a new team, the Southeast Texas Oilers.

The Oilers held their first registration event Sunday, Feb. 16, in Rogers Park.

April Parkerson, vice president of the Oilers, said the in-person registration event was “pretty successful.”
