Constable Nick Saleme allegedly in violation of election law

An allegedly visible violation of campaign rules put a Jefferson County official on the hotseat Tuesday, Feb. 2. According to Jefferson County District Attorney Bob Wortham, county Constable Precinct No. 1 “Nick” Saleme could be found in violation of campaign law due to inclusion of his county-issued email address on posted signage.

One of the great things about wild pigs is that they can be hunted year round, day and night, and you can kill as many as you can haul away. Another good thing about pigs is that they are good to eat, and there seems to be an unlimited supply of them.

In honor of October’s designation as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Family Services is sponsoring a special day of recognition. On October 13, area residents are asked to “go purple” and wear purple in support of healthy relationships and a stand against domestic violence.

Three Southeast Texas vets are being honored with the Knight medal of the French Legion of Honour, France’s highest decoration awarded for excellent civil or military conduct: Beaumont resident Arlie Ray Horn, 90; Beaumont resident and retired Jefferson County 136th District Court Judge Jack R. King, 91; and 94-year-old Vidor resident Robert L. Jackson.

More than 60 officers from the Beaumont Police Department, the Port Arthur Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement agencies were dispatched Wednesday, Oct. 29, to serve search and arrest warrants at five local gaming rooms and the home of the head of those establishments, who is alleged to have committed felony acts in connection to ongoing criminal enterprises.
