A three-and-a-half hour SWAT standoff with police ended when the suspect shot himself in the face, reports the Beaumont Police Department.

According to a news release from BPD, patrol officers responded to a family disturbance in the 2100 block of Avenue A at 11:29 a.m. on March 22. Multiple callers from the house reportedly told 911 operators that a family member’s estranged husband was at their house attempting to find her, and that the man was armed with a handgun, threatening to shoot his wife as well as himself. When officers arrived, the man was gone.

Police say Jason Richard (inset) took his own life at his home in Groves.

As thunder and lightning rolled overhead, police and SWAT teams in Groves rolled into the 6200 block of Jackson Street after a gunman barricaded himself inside his home Wednesday, June 19.

Multiple neighbors on the scene said Jason Richard, a father of two and a successful small business owner in Groves, was the man inside.
