A 36-year-old Mt. Vernon, Texas man, Charles Maull II, has been sentenced to prison for federal tax violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney Joseph D. Brown today. 

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Maull, pleaded guilty on Feb. 21 to six counts of willfully aiding in the preparation and filing of a false income tax return and was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison today by U.S. District Judge Thad Heartfield.  Maull was also ordered to pay restitution of $674,730.68 to the Internal Revenue Service.

Charges filed against a Southeast Texas tax preparer in federal court on March 5 alleges he fraudulently filed tax returns with the IRS claiming education credits for inmates of the Jefferson County Jail for at least three years before his scheme against taxpayers was brought to light.

The IRS and the BBB warn that IRS impersonators are calling around the area, trying to cash in by purloining people's personal information and using threats to divert vulnerable victims' cash into the fraudsters' own pockets.

A 44-year-old Port Arthur, Texas man has pleaded guilty to federal income tax violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales today.  

Theodore Paul Victor Jr. pleaded guilty to tax evasion today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Keith F. Giblin.

A scam targeting seniors and persons receiving disability benefits made its way through Jefferson County the past few months, with residents of Port Arthur impacted at a significant rate. Those perpetrating the scam duped victims by promising them access to a federal stimulus check, allegedly administered to all Social Security recipients, even though no such provision exists. Victims supplied the scammers with copies of their driver’s license, Social Security number, and banking information.
