At approximately 4:15 a.m., according to Sergeant Stephanie Davis of the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Troopers responded to a multiple vehicle crash on US 96 in Hardin County, approximately 5 miles north of Silsbee.

Davis reports preliminary information available indicates that that a Mack garbage truck was traveling northbound on US 96 when it was rear-ended by a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro operated by 25-year-old Justin Dwayne Smith of Silsbee.

Smith was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries; the driver of the Mack garbage truck was not injured.

On Monday, March 12, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) will close the eastbound traffic lanes on SH 73, near Wilber Road, to reconstruct a fatal crash that occurred on Friday, according to DPS’ Sergeant Stephanie Davis.

All eastbound traffic lanes will be closed for approximately three hours with crash reconstruction beginning at 1 p.m., she advised.

“Motorists are urged to find an alternate travel route,” according to Davis. “Expect delays.”

At approximately 8 a.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety received a report of a multiple vehicle crash on Interstate 10, near the Neches River bridge, in Orange County.

Initial reports indicated that a Honda Civic was traveling westbound  in the inside lane on Interstate 10 followed by a Kia passenger vehicle.  Due to normal morning traffic, both vehicles began to slow down when the Kia was rear-ended by a Chevrolet pickup truck.  The impact of the collision caused the Kia to rear-end the Honda.
