Samurai Showdown

It was an overwhelming success in every capacity as Texas Karate Academy (TKA) held its first Samurai Showdown June 11 as more than 200 competitors from Austin to Baton Rouge filled Wesley Methodist Church in Beaumont.

TKA had 36 students compete, which resulted in 29 first-place awards, nine second-place awards and 15 third-place finishes.

Ozen point guard signs with Northwestern State

Ozen senior point guard Josh Boyd signed a Nation Letter of Intent to play college basketball at Northwestern State in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

Boyd (6-0, 200) averaged 10 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and three steals last year, helping the Panthers make the Class 5A state championship game while finishing 33-4.


Community Christian School

The varsity cross country team at Community Christian School in Orange recently competed at the TAPPS 2A state championship in Waco on Oct. 31.

Students from Mike Berryhill’s Texas Karate Academy (TKA), 7310 Highway 105 in Beaumont, will have an opportunity to bring home the gold to Southeast Texas once again at the Amateur Organization of Karate (AOK) state championship Saturday, Dec. 14, in Galveston.
