Many weekend travelers of Interstate 10 in Orange County and across the Louisiana state line experienced delays resulting from two separate multi-vehicle accidents July 17, Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Stephanie Davis reported. 

According to Davis, DPS was alerted to both accidents at around the same time, 3:50 p.m.

At approximately 12:15p.m. Wednesday, June 15, the Texas Department of Public Safety received a report of an 18-wheeler on fire in the eastbound traffic lanes of Interstate 10 in Orange County near mile marker 871. An International truck tractor semi-trailer towing live chickens experienced a tire blowout that sparked a fire.  At the time of the crash, the vehicle was transporting approximately 6,000 chickens.

About 2,000 chickens died in the fire.

Texas Department of Transportation spokesperson Sarah Dupre announced May 24 that crews have begun this year’s sealcoat operations around the area. Drivers should expect to see one-lane, two-way traffic operated by flaggers. Work will take place during daylight hours. See below for this week’s schedule.

I-10 and US 69N traffic that was already backed up because of a road closure near the Sabine River can expect further delays due to an accident near the Delaware exit in Beaumont. US69 became a detour route because of the 1-10 closure. This detour is now experiencing traffic stalls because of the accident. More information will be released when it becomes available.

The City of Beaumont announced Feb. 4 that effective immediately Sweetgum Street from North 10th Street to North 11th Street will be closed to through traffic until further notice.
