Citizens took a stand, and city and county officials took heed of constituents’ opposition when the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announced plans to eliminate the Brooks Road overpass as part of ongoing widening projects on Interstate 10.

A second wave of debris removal will begin March 12 in the area between 25th Street and SH 73. This will include Foster Estates and the immediate adjacent area. City employees will continue debris removal in the remaining areas throughout the city.

At approximately 5 p.m. Saturday, March 3, a one-vehicle crash near mile marker 859 in Orange County shut down westbound Interstate 10 for about two hours.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), a Chevrolet Avalanche was traveling westbound on Interstate 10. For an unknown reason, the vehicle struck the inside concrete wall, traveled back across the westbound traffic lanes and struck the outside concrete wall. Upon impact, the driver was ejected from the vehicle.

Traffic along US 69 southbound between Lumberton and Beaumont will be down to one lane starting Jan. 9 as crews begin a project to improve drainage, TxDOT spokesperson Sarah Dupre said in a release.

Highway 105 near Reins Road, near Bevil Oaks, is currently closed in both direction due to an accident, TxDOT said in a statement at 8:51 a.m. Dec. 11.
