Valentine's Day

These days it is pretty normal for a man to kiss a woman on the second or third date, but in 1949, Arthur Champagne kissed his wife for the first time on the very day he proposed to her – after she said yes of course.

The Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET) invites children and their families to join in a stimulating art adventure at “Either/And” Family Arts Day from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11. The event is free and open to the public and will feature hands-on art activities, refreshments and entertainment designed to encourage families to explore the museum and learn more about the artwork on display.

History tells us that the story of Valentine’s Day begins in the third century with an oppressive Roman emperor, Claudius II, and a humble Christian martyr, Valentinus. We of course, do not know for certain if this is the case, but this version has lasted through countless years and has been repeated from generation to generation.

Divergent Theater will present a Valentine’s show Friday, Feb. 13, and Saturday, Feb. 14, hosted by the Beaumont Club. Patrons will dine on a specially prepared meal by Chef Rodney while listening to live music.
