Veterans needing legal advice or legal assistance can visit a free legal clinic Saturday, Aug. 20, from 8:30 a.m. – noon at the Lumberton Fire & EMS at 228 Country Lane Drive. Mural at Atria Collier Park honoring veterans

When Engage Life Director Cheri Courts came to work for Atria Collier Park three years ago and saw the wall honoring veterans, she immediately wanted to paint a mural for these men and women that put their lives on the line to make sure we could keep our freedom.

Atria Collier Park is an assisted living community in Beaumont.

“To me this was how we as a community could honor and say ‘thank you’ to all of our veterans,” said Courts, who has an extensive background in art.

The public is invited to the 13th annual tribute to Orange County veterans 6 p.m. Sunday, May 29, at the Heritage Veterans Memorial Plaza, 3810 MLK Drive in Orange. The event is free.

Held annually on the plaza on the campus of Orange First Church of the Nazarene, the program includes special speakers, patriotic music and more.

Wounded service members and their family members who participate in future Lone Survivor Foundation (LSF) healing retreats on the Bolivar Peninsula facility will have access to a fully equipped, wood working shop donated by Dewalt Tools.

Kelly High School’s Youth-Leadership Southeast Texas (Y-LSET) Team has partnered with Leadership Southeast Texas and West Brook High School’s Y-LSET Team to collect used bicycles for veterans. The program was designed to fulfill military veterans’ requests for bicycles to help them seek and maintain employment. All donations will benefit Jefferson County veterans and their families.
