The Vidor Police Department (VPD) is adding an officer to its ranks, and plans to sniff out a name soon for the new K-9 officer, Chief Rod Carroll reports.
According to a news release, the newest addition to the VPD team is a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois. The K-9 unit is being trained for narcotics, tracking and handler protection, states the department, and is expected to start patrolling with Officer Ethan Mansfield in February 2018.
"The K-9 is another tool that is being utilized to better protect our community," Carroll stated.
