The Vidor Police Department is warning residents about records flooding in the city and cautioning citizens to adhere to barricades placed to block traffic from flooded avenues. 

According to Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 28, "We are having record flooding in our community. We need everyone to stay home and do not cross barricades. Most roads are flooded and passing vehicles are pushing water into residences. This event is catastrophic. We need to be respectful and safe by not driving on roadways. Most businesses are closed today."

Update 8/28:

Bevil Oaks and Northwest Forest are now under mandatory evacuation orders, according to County Judge Jeff Branick as of 11:15 a.m. on Monday, August 28. 

Lamar University classes scheduled for Wednesday, August 30 have been canceled.  This cancellation is in addition to those announced for Monday and Tuesday. The university hopes that classes can resume on Thursday, August 31.

Police arrested a Vidor man Aug. 14 after he reportedly struck a vehicle from behind, bolted from the scene of the accident and then assaulted a responding officer who followed a trail of car parts to find the fleeing suspect.

According to a report from the Vidor Police Department, a caller reported that while stopped at the intersection of Old Highway 90 East and the I-10 service road in his Ford F-150, a silver Nissan Versa struck his vehicle from behind and kept driving.

A 36-year-old Vidor man has pleaded guilty to federal drug trafficking violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Brit Featherston Aug. 16.

Jonathan Derick Hickey pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine Aug. 16 before U.S. Magistrate Judge Keith Giblin.

The double murder of 83-year-old Richard Ames and 85-year-old Edna Phillips, who were violently stabbed to death at Ames' Vidor home in 2015, shocked and appalled the small community with the police chief at the time, Dave Shows, describing the killings as "the most senseless, brutal murders" he'd ever seen as a longtime law enforcer.

This morning around 1:50 a.m., Jefferson County deputies responded to a suspicious vehicle call on Boondocks Road, Deputy Marcus McLellan said in a release. The caller saw a truck pulling a trailer loaded with an excavator, and moving machinery after dark is unusual.
