Monday, Jan. 8, at 3:54 p.m., Beaumont police responded to an auto-pedestrian crash in the 6100 block of Hwy 69 southbound, Officer Haley Morrow said in a release.

When officers arrived, they located a male lying in the roadway.

At this time, police said it is unclear whether he was attempting to cross Hwy 69 or if he was walking next to the inside lane when he was struck by a Dodge Ram pick-up.

A Vidor man accused of murder is out on bond after being arrested in relation to the shooting death of 51-year-old Christopher Eric Sharpe, also of Vidor, reports the Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO). According to investigators, Sharpe was shot and killed just days before Christmas at a Vidor residence belonging to the suspected shooter, identified by deputies as 31-year-old James Derrick McGlothlin.

Deputies with the Orange County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) are searching for 31-year-old James Derrick McGlothlin of Vidor after a murder warrant was issued for his arrest following the shooting death of 51-year-old Christopher Sharpe Dec. 19, reports Criminal Investigator Janois Strause Grizzaffi.

Detectives with the Orange County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) are investigating a shooting in Vidor that claimed a man's life Dec. 19, Criminal Investigator Janois Strause Grizzaffi reports.

According to her, deputies responded to the 1100 block of Liberty in Vidor at about 10 p.m. in reference to a shooting. When they arrived, they found a white male deceased inside a residence with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper portion of his body.

Vidor City Councilman for Ward VI David Slaughter is stepping down from the council in preparation of a move to Beaumont, the longtime councilman said in a letter to the city Dec. 15. Slaughter's last day will be Dec. 22.

On a Facebook post, Slaughter said he was selling his "little farm...in Vidor" and would miss the citizens he served for approximately 14 years as councilman of both Wards 3 and 6 at different times.

The Vidor Police Department (VPD) is adding an officer to its ranks, and plans to sniff out a name soon for the new K-9 officer, Chief Rod Carroll reports. 

According to a news release, the newest addition to the VPD team is a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois. The K-9 unit is being trained for narcotics, tracking and handler protection, states the department, and is expected to start patrolling with Officer Ethan Mansfield in February 2018. 

"The K-9 is another tool that is being utilized to better protect our community," Carroll stated.

Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017, at approximately 09:15 am, the Vidor Police Dispatch Center received notification that the Louisiana State Patrol was in pursuit of a black Acura bearing North Carolina license plates at speeds in excess of 100 mph westbound on Interstate 10, according to a VPD press release.
