Small-town Mississippi rockers 3 Doors Down have gone on to become one of the most successful and popular rock backs of the last 20 years. Forming in 1995, they’ve sold more than 16 million albums, earned three Grammy nominations, won two American Music Awards, and five BMI Pop Awards for songwriting.

When someone mentions the history of music in Southeast Texas, specifically Beaumont, the first thing that usually comes to mind is the Beaumont Boys, which include Mark Chesnutt, Clay Walker and Tracy Byrd. But it’s much more than just those three talented players, and local concert promoter Johnae Whitaker has put together a gem of a gig to showcase the local talent in Southeast Texas called the OurTyme Music Festival on Saturday, June 24, at the Red Room (near Dixie Dance Hall) on Crockett Street in downtown Beaumont.

Summer doesn’t officially start until June 20, but as the air outside heats up, so does the local and regional concert calendar. From monster arena shows to outdoor pavilions and pool parties on down to small clubs, the 2017 summer lineup looks to have plenty of variety for music lovers of all kinds.

Beaumont has plenty to look forward to, especially at the downtown venues, as Texas country artists Bruce Robinson and brother Charlie perform on the “My Brother & Me Acoustic Tour” at the Jefferson Theatre on Thursday, July 13, with tickets starting at $25.

After a highly successful Total Package Tour in 2013, the follow-up properly titled Total Package Tour featuring the New Kids on the Block will “step by step” into the Toyota Center in Houston on Saturday, May 20. If NKOTB wasn’t enough, Paula Abdul, who will tour for the first time in 25 years, will perform as well as Boyz II Men giving fans a concert with more than 200 million combined record sales on one stage.

Canadian singer/songwrighter/producer The Weeknd is currently the hottest entertainer in the music industry and it showed May 6 when his Starboy: Legend of the Fall 2017 Tour took over the Toyota Center in Houston. The show was sold out, but that didn't stop fans from gathering around the venue hours before the show asking to purchase tickets from those who may have had a extra ticket. Some succeeded while others hung around just to hear some of loud music from inside.

Multi-platinum recording rock band Bush returns to the road in North America in support of their new record Black and White Rainbows, which is available now and was written, recorded and produced by vocalist Gavin Rossdale. This is the seventh studio release for Bush and first new music since 2014’s Man on the Run.

Country music star and Beaumont native Mark Chesnutt brought a breath of fresh air to the current state of the clogged up Country music scene on April 14 when he played a plethora of his hits to a packed Grand Event Center located inside the Golden Nugget in Lake Charles.

"Country music nowadays, you can't tell from one person to the next, it all sounds the same," Chesnutt told the audience. "I'm here to play some real Country music. So if you don't want to hear real Country music, you might want to leave." Not a single person moved.

MAGIC! One of many words to describe Olivia Newton-John's standing room only performance April 7 at the Grand Event Center inside the Golden Nugget in Lake Charles.

Though many know her for her role as Sandy Olsson alongside John Travolta in the 1978 iconic musical-film Grease, Olivia had a string of seven No. 1 songs before she ever stepped foot on the movie set including "Please Mr. Please" and "I Honestly Love You," which she ended the 21-song set with.

Lynyrd Skynyrd

Members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Southern rock superstars Lynyrd Skynyrd featuring Johnny Van Zant on vocals performed a sold out show in the Grand Event Center at the Golden Nugget in Lake Charles on April 8. The band opened up the concert with “What’s Your Name” and kept the crowd on their feet for more than two hours. The concert also featured all their hits including “Saturday Night,” a version of Merle Haggard’s “Honky Tonk Night Time Man,” “That Smell,” “Simple Man,” “Gimme Three Steps,” “Sweet Home Alabama” and closed with their classic, “Free Bird.”

The Symphony of Southeast Texas will wrap up its spectacular 64th season with an extraordinary evening of great artistry fulfilling the season’s “Symphony Fantastique” theme on Saturday, April 1, inside the Julie Rogers Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Piano soloist Christopher O’Riley joins the Symphony featuring Rachmaninoff’s “Variations on a theme by Paganini” and Berlioz’s “Symphonie Fantastique.”
