Screaming for something exciting and music related to do in Orange? Well, the Orange Convention and Visitors Bureau is hosting the Downtown Music Festival on Saturday, March 25. 

“We are excited to bring the Downtown Music Festival to Orange,” said Hillary Haynes, social media coordinator for the City of Orange. “This gives the opportunity to bring an eclectic mix of music to one area where locals and visiting fans can come and enjoy a variety of sounds and talents.”

Following a sold-out concert with Tracy Byrd, the Symphony of Southeast Texas (SOST) continues its “Symphony Fantastique” season by going back to the classics and performing great works from Johann Strauss, Johannes Brahms and Robert Schumann. The SOST Chorus also joins in for a traditional choral concert Saturday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. at the Julie Rogers Theatre.

Texas Country acts Eli Young Band and special guest Frankie Ballard will perform at the Texas Longhorn Club on Saturday, March 4, with doors opening at 7 p.m. Tickets for this 18-and-older show are $30. Eli Young Band is no stranger to the area, having played several shows and festivals in Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana. The band formed in 2000 in Denton and is led by vocalist Mike Eli and guitarist James Young. Their song “Crazy Girl” won Song of the Year at the 2012 Academy of Country Music Awards.

Courville’s Concert Series continues Thursday, March 9, with the Black Lillies. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are $40 and can be purchased online at courvillescatering.com or by calling (409) 860-9811. That price includes a buffet dinner. From Knoxville, Tennessee, the band formed in 2009, and the current lineup consists of vocalists Cruz Contreras and Hayle Cole, Sam Quinn (bass), Bowman Townsend (percussion), Jonathan Keeney (pedal steel guitar) and Dustin Schaefer (electric guitar).

Bobby Sanabria, seven-time Grammy nominated drummer and percussionist, will be the featured artist at the upcoming Lamar University Percussion and Jazz Weekend, scheduled for Friday, March 3, and Saturday, March 4, at the Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music at Lamar University.

The festival will feature workshops, symposiums and master classes, and will conclude with the gala concert featuring Sanabria on Saturday at 6 p.m., in the University Theatre. The Cardinal Jazz Orchestra and percussion ensembles will perform with Sanabria.
