Just after noon on July 29, Beaumont Police Department (BPD) officers were dispatched to the Shell gas station at the intersection of State Highway 105 and North Major Drive to find Cory Beckett, 38, of Beaumont, unresponsive in the parking lot, stated a BPD new release.

“At this time it appears to be an argument between two individuals that escalated into a shooting,” BPD advised of initial findings.

Jaye Normand, 29, of Beaumont, was arrested and charged with murder. Normand’s bond was originally set at $1 million, BPD advised.

Jefferson County Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 Ben Collins Sr., who set Normand’s original bond, later reduced bond to $100,000, with requirements to wear an ankle monitor and remain in Jefferson County.

According to Normand’s social media account, he works as a carpenter at Apache Industrial United Inc., headquartered in Crown Point, Indiana.
