Cock caper blocked from flight

Port Arthur cock caper Cuong Nguyen, 37, was indicted Aug. 23 on state jail felony charges of burglary of a building after causing a ruckus with a rooster on Green Avenue.

According to the probable cause affidavit for his arrest March 22, officers with Port Arthur Police Department responded to a robbery in progress where a homeowner stated she had him held in her garage.

Upon arrival, officers checked the garage, but the suspect was no longer on the scene. The homeowner advised officers that an Asian male went into her detached garage and stole a rooster from inside the building. She stated the building had been closed and secured and no one had permission to take the rooster. The homeowner then showed officers video footage from the incident where you could see the man walk inside the garage, select a rooster, and place it inside a black bag as he attempted to leave the scene.

Officer DeFrancis was able to recognize Cuong as the subject from previous dealings and subsequently issued the warrant for his arrest. Still not ruling the roost, Cuong remained in custody at the Jefferson County Correctional facility at press time.
