A pair of out-of-state residents were jailed after a police pursuit Dec. 20, reported the Beaumont Police Department (BPD).

According to BPD, at 3:25 p.m., officers working criminal interdiction on Interstate 10 near Major Drive initiated a traffic stop on a white Dodge Challenger for a traffic violation. The vehicle’s driver evaded officers and a pursuit ensued. Officers briefly lost sight of the vehicle then found it unoccupied near the intersection of the Cardinal Drive service road near Executive Boulevard.

Officers saturated the area and located the two suspects, who both began evading on foot through a neighborhood east of Executive Boulevard before being apprehended.

BPD reported an investigation revealed that, while the suspects were fleeing from officers, they discarded a bag containing electronic criminal instruments used to commit auto thefts. The vehicle was reported stolen from Louisiana and a handgun was found inside.

After being interviewed by auto theft detectives, both suspects — Tory Willis, 19, of Duson, Louisiana, and Anthony Curtis, 20, of Corona, California — were transported to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility. Both were charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest/detention in a motor vehicle, evading arrest/detention on foot, unlawfully carrying a weapon and unlawful use of criminal instrument.
