A traffic stop in the 7700 block of Helbig Road resulted in a police chase and the arrest of two, resulting in the discovery of four handguns on June 29, according to the Beaumont Police Department (BPD).

BPD reported that officers stopped a gray GMC SUV driven by Darrel Douglas, 23, and occupied by 17-year-old Demonte A. Chopane in the passenger seat, at approximately p.m., developing “probable cause to search the vehicle” while interviewing the pair in the SUV.

Officers reportedly found Chopane in possession of three handguns and Douglas in possession of another handgun.

After stopping the SUV, officers noticed a red and white dirt bike was following the patrol car.

“They recognized this dirt bike that was recently involved in a separate crime and attempted to stop it on East Lucas Drive,” BPD reported.

The motorcyclist, Tyree Frazier, 18, reportedly led officers on a brief pursuit, subsequently stopped and arrested in the 4700 block of Concord Road.

BPD reported that all three suspects were transported to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility. Douglas and Chopane were each charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon, and Frazier was charged with evading in a motor vehicle.

According to the inmate roster on July 3, bond for Chopane was set at $200,000 for aggravated robbery. He was also charged with evading arrest, unauthorized use of a vehicle and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

There was no bond information on Douglas or Frazier
