Lamar University invites the Southeast Texas community to CentennialFest, a 100th anniversary celebration, on Sunday, Sept. 17, from 4-8 p.m. kicking off in the Plummer Lawn and spanning through the quad to the Shelia Umphrey Recreational Sports Center.

The festival will be a family friendly, community-wide birthday celebration for LU’s historic centennial year.

“We are thrilled to host the Southeast Texas community right here on our campus,” Dr. Golden Wright, event chairman, said. “The opportunity to share in celebrating this tremendous occasion with everyone is an honor.”

Guests can expect food trucks, a beer garden, live music by local musicians Still Cruisin’, and so much more during the birthday bash portion of CentennialFest from 4-7:30 p.m. Beginning promptly at 5 p.m., LU’s birthday proclamation will be made in the university quad, the hub of campus activity.

“CentennialFest is a great opportunity for faculty, staff, students, alumni and community to join together in celebrating,” Wright said. “There will be lots of activities for children, interactive opportunities with student athletics, and various other entertainment.”

The family fest portion of the event will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. inside of the Sheila Umphrey Recreational Sports Center, featuring kids activities, bounce houses, a dunking booth and free refreshments.

“Lamar University has proudly served the Southeast Texas community for 100 years by producing career-ready graduates who sustain and flourish in our economy,” Wright said. “We are ready for the next 100.”
