BCP, which will soon be rebranded to “Southeast Texas Stages,” is performing a completely unique and ground-breaking performance of “The Miracle Worker” by William Gibson, that tells the story of Helen Keller and her devoted teacher, Annie Sullivan. Beyond the powerful story of Helen and her perseverance, this production is fully shadow cast with American Sign Language Interpreters, meaning every hearing actor also has an interpreter, making every seat in the house for every performance fully accessible to the Hard of Hearing and Deaf community. “We are trying to break down barriers (and make local theater) a bigger stage, especially for under-served communities that don’t have access here,” said John Manfredi, executive director of BCP.
