More than $100,000 in counterfeit merchandise was seized during a warrant raid on June 8 at a boutique business in the 2300 block of North Street, the Beaumont Police Department (BPD) reported.

BPD detectives from the Financial Crimes Unit, Special Services Detail, Property Crimes and Burglary Units executed a search warrant at the Love N Tha Life Boutique. BPD reported they received information that this boutique was selling trademark counterfeit clothing, shoes, jewelry and purses.

During this search, hundreds of pieces of trademark counterfeit items were seized that claimed to be from companies that include Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Nike, North Face, Versace, Burberry, Yves Saint Laurent, Prada, Chanel, Hermes, Christian Dior and others.

BPD, in a statement, stated counterfeiting is not a “harmless” or “victimless” crime.

“The truth is that counterfeiting is linked to other crimes such as human trafficking, drug smuggling, gang activity, and child labor. Counterfeit luxury goods ruin the reputation of brands, contribute to an unethical labor market, and subsidize organized crime,” stated BPD. “Detectives are continuing to follow up on counterfeit leads throughout Southeast Texas. This is just one of possibly dozens of small, clandestine storefront and home-based businesses practicing this illegal trade.”

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CPB), so far this month, they have seized nearly $2 million in counterfeit merchandise, including more than $1.3 million in fake luxury watches at Los Angeles International Airport.

In 2022, the agency seized $ 1 billion in counterfeit merchandise – the most the agency has ever confiscated. The merchandise reportedly ranges from sneakers and high-end bags to watches and other goods, and most come from China.

If you have information on this crime or the sales and/or purchase of counterfeit trademarked merchandise, call BPD at (409) 832-1234 or Crime Stoppers of Southeast Texas at (409) 833- TIPS(8477).
