Pct. 2 Constable Christopher Bates won the 2023 Constable of the Year Award at the National Constables and Marshals Association 50th annual conference in Biloxi, Mississippi, recently.

Bates was elected in 2012 and took office in 2013. At age 27, he was the second youngest constable in the history of Texas. He's also the youngest-ever elected official in Jefferson County and the first black constable of Pct. 2.

In May 2008, he graduated from Lamar Institute of Technology with a Certificate of Completion in Law Enforcement and was licensed as a peace officer and went to work as a patrol officer with the Port Arthur Police Department.

In March 2009, he started working as a deputy constable for Pct. 8. Constable Eddie Collins.
