A 21-year old Beaumont man was sentenced to 28 years in prison Friday, June 4, according to a news release from the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.

Javante Jordan Stoker was found guilty by a jury and sentenced to 28 years in prison by Judge John B. Stevens court. According to the release, Stoker will have to serve one-half of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.

Several people were shooting dice around 3 a.m. on Aug. 7, 2019, outside of Waffle House located on College Street in Beaumont. Stoker lost $100 in the game, walked to his car and came back with an assault rifle called a Draco. He told the others shooting dice to give them their money. The victim pushed the gun away and attempted to run. The victim was shot in the leg by Stoker. His shin bone was shattered and he crawled into the Waffle House for safety. Friends with the victim drove him to the hospital in a private vehicle.

The case was investigated by Detective Timothy Spikes of the Beaumont Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Mike Laird.
