Fire reported at former sawmill

Oct. 9, fire crews extinguished a fire at the old Louisiana-Pacific sawmill plant, north of Silsbee on FM 92.

Hardin County Judge Wayne McDaniel reported the fire, which was sparked by a demolition contractor cutting a large pipe, was in the attic of an outbuilding.

Firefighters from Kountze VFD and Lumberton Fire and Rescue assisted Silsbee VFD.

In August, Hardin County commissioners approved designating the CLR Silsbee Property Owner, LLC property located at the old sawmill as a reinvestment zone for the purpose of possible tax abatement of proposed improvements.

The property has been sitting dormant since 2007.
