The W.H. Stark House’s First Floor Friday open house scheduled for June 23 will feature Miriam Lutcher Stark’s crystal collection pieces culled during the height of the American Brilliant Cut Glass period from 1876 to 1917. Stark’s collection of cut-glass pieces remains among the largest in the Southern United States. The public is invited to further examine these pieces in the new exhibition “Brilliant: Cut Glass from The W.H. Stark House” at the next First Floor Friday on June 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“The scale of Miriam’s collection is just amazing,” said Executive Director of Stark Art & History Venues Trina Nelson Thomas. “The pieces that she chose for her collection are among the highest quality from that American Brilliant period. To have all these pieces together in this special exhibition is a real treat for visitors.”

“Brilliant: Cut Glass from The W.H. Stark House” includes pieces from the top cutting shops T.G. Hawkes & Co., Pairpoint Manufacturing Company and H.P. Sinclaire & Company, among others. The cut glass pieces are reportedly uniquely made with lead oxide, which makes this beautiful artwork “crystal” glass.

At First Floor Friday, the public is invited to walk the grounds and view the first floor of the historic home, which includes the library, music room, dining room and breakfast room/office, and the Carriage House. Materials for a selfguided experience are provided for all visitors. Underwritten by the Stark Foundation, timed tickets are available at the Carriage House on a first-come, first-served basis. Visitors must be able to climb stairs to access the house entrance and second floor exhibition. Please note these spaces are not wheelchair or stroller accessible. Entrance to The W.H. Stark House is free of charge, and the last entry is at 1:30 p.m.

The W.H. Stark House is located at 610 Main Ave. in Orange. For more information, visit whstarkhouse.org or call (409) 883-0871.
