Longtime Jefferson County Tax Assessor-Collector Allison Nathan Getz, 63, died on Oct. 10.

Getz was elected tax assessor-collector and voter registrar in 2014 after a 20-year career as a senior financial advisor with Merrill Lynch.

A graduate of the University of Texas business school and a fifth-generation Beaumont resident, Getz remained steadfast in her commitment to the community and volunteerism.

Having served as president of several local nonprofit organizations including The Beaumont Children’s Museum, Symphony of Southeast Texas, Southeast Texas Tennis Association, The Fire Museum of Texas and Jefferson County Texas Exes, Getz left her mark on the community as a whole.

An outpouring of love and fond recollections overflowed on social media, through text messages to and from loved ones and friends, and communal moments of support to assuage the sadness of the loss.

“Some friends are just special,” said close friend and neighbor Cheryl Wisenbaker. “They enter our lives at their precise season, gently, humbly, and joyfully carving a special place in our hearts…I admired her deep love for her children and grandchildren, the unbreakable bond with her beloved parents and brother and her feigned exasperation, devotion and loyalty to Mike. That was Allison.”

Getz is survived by her husband, Mike Getz of Beaumont; son, Tipton Lee Golias and his wife, Suzy, of Houston; daughter, Elizabeth Buffin Reynolds and her husband, Rudy, of Houston; parents, Iris and Jerry Nathan of Beaumont; brother, Irl Nathan and his wife, Ticca, of Austin; stepson, Jacob Getz and his wife, Kelsey, of Pflugerville; grandchildren Sadie Reynolds, Alice Reynolds, Samantha Golias, and Marigold Getz; niece, Zoë Nathan; and nephew, Jake Nathan.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 14, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Ave., Beaumont. Her funeral service will be at 12 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 15, at Temple Emanuel, 1120 Broadway, Beaumont, with her interment to follow at Hebrew Rest Cemetery, Beaumont.

Memorial contributions may be made to Some Other Place, 590 Center St., Beaumont, Texas 77701; Gift of Life, 2390 Dowlen Rd., Beaumont, Texas 77706; or Symphony of Southeast Texas, P.O. Box 12576, Beaumont, Texas 77726.
