While visiting Sour Lake on Sept. 15, retired Sour Lake Police Officer William “Bill” McKeon was presented with two long overdue awards by Police Chief Aaron Burleson.

One was a Life Saving Award in which McKeon was dispatched to a residence for an infant not breathing. After arrival, he immediately began performing infant CPR on the infant until the infant began to breathe on its own. The infant made a full recovery.

The second award presented was the Law Enforcement Purple Heart. McKeon was brutally attacked at a local convenience store in May 2019. The subject knocked McKeon unconscious and severely beat him.

The injuries he sustained from the brutal attack forced McKeon to retire from law enforcement.
