Sept. 12, the Beaumont City Council voted to approve the fiscal year 2024 budget, which includes rate increases in water, garbage, and sewer services which begins Oct. 1, according to a news release.
Water service rates will increase by 4%, and sewer service rates will increase by 10%, meaning a residential customer inside city limits with a 5/8” meter who uses 5,000 gallons of water and sewer per month will see an increase in service fees of $4.33 per month or 6.33%.
Garbage collection rates will also increase by $1 per month, raising the rate from $22.25 to $23.25 on the monthly bill. Landfill disposal fees will increase by $1 per cubic yard.
“While we understand rate increases are never welcome news, the increase in fees is necessary to keep up with infla- tionary increases, maintain sufficient fund balances to keep the city in good fiscal standing, and to ensure that city provided services/operations continue at a high level, said Finance Director Todd Simoneaux. “We take the job of being good financial stewards of your tax dol- lars seriously, and the city has a number of planned projects outlined in the fiveyear Community Investment Plan (CIP) to update and upgrade aging infrastruc- ture and capital improvements that the community will be excited to learn about.”
