Kountze Chamber of Commerce and Kountze Historic District will present “Spring Time on the Square” on Saturday, April 22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in conjunction with the third annual Art Extravaganza at the Kirby-Hill House. The event is free and open to the public.

Patrons can enjoy boiled crawfish, live music from Sharon and Harry Meaux, Shon Branham plus food trucks, vendors and a petting zoo for the kids.

Art can be found at the Kirby-Hill House at 210 West Main St., including an art show, artist demos, craft booths as well as a resin pouring demonstration throughout the day. In addition to being on display at the Kirby-Hill House during the event, artwork that receives a Gold Medal or Best of Show award will participate in a Traveling Exhibition that will tour Southeast Texas locations.

The Kirby-Hill House was built in 1902 by James L. Kirby, older brother and business partner of the more famous John Henry Kirby. The Kirby family established a lumber empire, which dominated the economy of this region for almost 100 years. The house features wrap-around porches with 48 columns, four fireplaces, and eight rooms that all open onto the porch through eight-foot, double-sash windows. The most outstanding architectural features include the curved walls and oval grand staircase. On the grounds to the right of the mansion is a state champion Crepe Myrtle tree that is over 100 years old.
