Graduates of Charlton-Pollard High School Class of 1950-1975 are reuniting this week for their 15th Mass Reunion in Beaumont. The reunion is at the Holiday and Suites, 3950 Interstate 10 South, through Sunday, July 16.

In 1874, ex-slave Charles Charlton, along with Woodson Pipkin, established a school for Black people in the Live Oak Baptist Church. The school grew over the years, with multiple buildings and principals. In 1924, T.T Pollard became the supervisor and the school was eventually named Charlton-Pollard High School. Several principals served until R.A. Cook became principal in 1972 before being elected assistant superintendent for the Beaumont ISD in 1975.

The reunion features a church service, movie night, pep rally, silent auction, fashion extravaganza, banquet, casino night, vendors and much more.

Friday, July 14, enjoy the “Alumni Style and Talent Show” from 1 to 3 p.m., as classmates profile their fashions and talents.

Banquet, picnic and luncheon prices are $25 each. Contact Faye Johnson at (409) 728-7678 for tickets or information.

Those interested in taking the reunion celebration into next week are invited to participate in a casino trip to Livingston, Texas, on Monday, July 17. Riders will leave from Sam’s parking lot in Beaumont at 9 a.m. Admission is a donation of $35, with $25 returned to the guest’s card. Contact Robert Dunn at (409) 553-1310 for a seat.
