Silsbee High School graduate Cheyenne Cooley is officially an FFA state officer as of the last week at the 95th Texas State FFA Convention in Dallas.

She was elected FFA state vice-president, the first time in school history for a SHS student to become a state officer. A team of 12 Texas FFA state officers were named to represent each of the area associations within Texas FFA.

“For those who don’t understand the importance, it’s the equivalent of winning a state football championship,” said Courtney Champagne, SHS’s lead instructor for Agriculture Science. “Texas FFA is one of the largest student-led organizations in the nation and one of our very own is leading it.”

As state officers, these students agree to dedicate one year of service to the Texas FFA Association. Cooley’s duties will include serving in local, district, area and state activities to educate, motivate and inspire FFA members to achieve the mission and goals of the organization.

“Today, I stand as the first-ever state officer from Silsbee,” Cooley said. “Though this next year looks scary and intimidating, I am so excited to get to be a leader. I get to travel the state and see its beauty. And above all else, I get to meet FFA members who share the same passion for agriculture that I do and share new and fresh ideas about it.”
