JCSO looking for information in murder case

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) detectives announced they are in the middle of an active and ongoing investigation, reaching out to the public for any additional information, such as photographs or videos, in a murder that took place in front of a large crowd on Easter.

According to JCSO, all leads will be investigated and no detail is too small.

The murder, which occurred Eas- ter Sunday morning, April 9, around 1 a.m., was recorded when JCSO deputies responded to 911 calls in reference to shots fired at the Laday Arena in Cheek.

Deputies discovered two males suffering from gunshot wounds and both were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

One of the victims, Javoris Potier, 30, of Houston, died; the other, a 37-year-old Beaumont man, lived.

Investigators reported that Potier was at the arena celebrating with his friends at the Zydeco dance.

According to JCSO, an abundance of information has been obtained and witnesses have come forward with useful details and visual accounts, but more information is needed. Detectives are determined to bring this investigation to a successful conclusion with the arrest of the person or persons responsible for Potier’s death.
