It’s no secret that some of the greatest sounds of rock music came during the 1980s and 1990s. Bands like GN’R, Mötley Crue, Def Leppard, Van Halen and Def Leppard took over the music industry by providing a new energy with riffing tunes, propulsive rhythms and a wide array of lyrical subjects.

Two bands, definitely not to be overlooked, which helped shape a rock and roll resurgence – Great White and Slaughter – have teamed up this summer for a co-headlining tour, which comes to the Grand Events Center inside the Golden Nugget in nearby Lake Charles, Louisiana, on Saturday, Aug. 5, at 8 p.m.

Tickets for the 21 and older show are $25-$35 and can be purchased online at goldennugget.com.

In 1990, Slaughter hit radio, MTV, and the North American touring circuit like a tornado –coming seemingly out of nowhere to roll through everything in its path and turn it upside down. Founding members Mark Slaughter (vocalist, rhythm guitar) and Dana Strum (bass), have shown no signs of slowing down.

Their debut album, Stick It to Ya, went on to reach double-platinum selling status thanks in part to massive hits “Up All Night” and “Fly to the Angels.”

Great White has thrived 40 years in the music business, the mantra must be, these songs are bigger than any one member. Grammy-nominated, their ride runs deep and its passion for the music goes beyond any depth with hits like “Once Bitten, Twice Shy,” “Rock Me,” “Mista Bone,” “Save Your Love,” “House of Broken Love,” and “Lady Red Light.”

The Examiner recently spoke with Slaughter’s Strum about his busy schedule, the band’s longevity, radio hits, inspirations and his custom designed V-shape basses.
