Aug. 14, just after noon, city of Nederland administration issued a boil water notice, “Due to a loss of system pressure due to a main waterline break as a result of the excessive heat and lack of rain.”

“Modest progress is being made to recharge the water system,” the city reported in a public advisement, indicating that the Public Works department staff was hard at work to repair the main waterline. Due to the treated water being put back into the water system, city advisement further relayed, some utility customers were having normalized or low water pressure; however, “All utility customers,” emphasis noted, were advised to conserve water: “This includes not washing clothes, not washing dishes, avoiding long showers, not watering yards, etc.

“We are asking utility customers to do their part and conserve water. Any progress may be erased by customers trying to go back to normal water consumption.”

By Tuesday evening, Aug. 15, water pressure was restored to the extent a boil water advisory was no longer needed.

“The city of Nederland apologizes for this inconvenience and expresses its appreciation for your patience and understanding,” a public notice read Aug. 15. “Please be assured of the city’s commitment to strengthening our utility infrastructure and ensuring the public health.

“A huge THANK YOU to the water plant operators and public works staff, who have worked tirelessly to resolve this issue and to restore the water system.”
