Jamal McCain, 39, was indicted on Aug. 9 on the charge of murder, accused of taking the life of Curtis Crawford in what police say looks to be a setup.

According to the probable cause affidavit for his arrest, McCain and 28-yearold Janesya Limbrick were in detailed communication with each other to set up a possible robbery on Crawford just before his death.

According to the probable cause affidavit for McCain’s arrest, Beaumont Police Department Criminal Investigator Heather Wilson and multiple officers were dispatched to the Pointe North Apartments at approximately 3:07 am June 6, in reference to a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located Craw- ford, unresponsive, in the parking lot of the apartments. Crawford was pronounced deceased at the scene by Beaumont EMS.

Video surveillance from inside the complex reveals Crawford and an unknown subject arrive and exit the vehicle and, upon his exit, Crawford was gunned down by two subjects who, according to Wilson, appeared to be waiting for the victim.

Through the investigation, it was revealed that the other subject in Craw- ford’s vehicle upon arrival was Lim- brick. The investigation led officers to search Limbrick’s phone, which contained evidence that she and McCain were in detailed communication with each other to set up a possible robbery on Crawford.

The video surveillance from the scene confirmed what was revealed in the cell phone communication.

Working with BPD and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the San Antonio Division of the U.S. Marshal arrested McCain on June 20. Limbrick was arrested on the day of the murder.

At press time, McCain and Limbrick both remained in the Jefferson County Correctional Facility with bonds set at $1 million each.
