Duo detained during early-morning burglary attempt

Sept. 2, the Beaumont Police Department (BPD) captured two thieves inside Tractor Supply, 8055 Eastex Freeway, at approximately 5:22 a.m., when officers responded in reference to multiple alarms sounding at the closed business.

Upon arrival, officers witnessed two white males running toward the back of the business, but the suspects’ flight was cut short by several officers and K9 Drax. The pair, identified as Kelly Allen, 51, and Thomas Denby, 28, were taken into custody and transported to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility.

During the investigation, officers located numerous burglary tools throughout the parking lot. Video surveillance reportedly confirmed the men were attempting to steal multiple pieces of equipment. BPD also learned that Allen had multiple warrants out of Hardin and Jefferson counties and Denby had multiple warrants out of Jefferson and Orange counties.

Both were charged with attempted felony theft.
