Beaumont Police Department officers were dispatched to the 3700 block of Crow Road in reference to shots fired to find an apartment complex scattered with shell casings, several suspects, and one victim with minor injuries on Sunday, Oct. 22.

According to information from BPD, the preliminary investigation reveals that the shooting “appears to be a disturbance that escalated into gunfire at the Hamlet apartments on Crow.”

In short succession, BPD officers detained several suspects, and identified one victim with non-life-threatening injuries.

Additionally, BPD reported, the evidence is supporting “that the feuding parties are familiar with each other. There is one confirmed victim that suffered minor injuries (cuts) and will be released from the hospital shortly.”

Jayce Smith, 19, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and deadly conduct/discharging a firearm for the Oct. 22 shooting and was taken to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility on bonds totaling $40,000.
