Three boaters were rescued by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s (JCSO) Marine Unit after the group sent out an emergency SOS of being stranded in a boat taking on water near the jetty.

Marine deputies were dispatched at approximately 7:45 p.m. Oct. 24 to find three men standing on the jetty near their boat. Because of strong winds, the boat was partially on the rocks.

Deputies tossed the boat captain a line and, once secured, the men returned to their disabled boat to facilitate a transfer to the JCSO vessel.

The JCSO boat captain then boarded the stranded boat and was able to maneuver it off the jetties and into a safer area where the boaters could safely load onto the JCSO vessel.

While still fighting choppy seas, and the wake of a passing ship, JCSO deputies towed the disabled fishing boat and the three passengers to the four-way stop boat ramp in Sabine Pass.

No injuries were reported.
