Saturday, Nov. 11, 7:30 p.m., Julie Rogers Theatre, Beaumont. $37-$62.

SOST will perform their second Classic Series concert, “Triumph over Tyranny,” with Maestro Chelsea Tipton II leading the way. The symphony will celebrate music of Central Europe, specifically, that of Poland, Hungary and thanks to Smetana, Czechoslovakia, and then will begin with Smetana’s “The Bartered Bride,” an excellent overture filled with great themes. Joining the symphony is featured artist Rodney Marsalis, who has performed in orchestras around the world, played for great conductors such as Leonard Bernstein, and now leads a unique brass band that reflects his many playing styles, carrying on the tradition of his talented family. He will play excerpts from Hummel’s “Trumpet Concerto,” Bach’s “Vivaldi Concerto” and Clarke’s “Carnival of Venice.” Veterans and all active military will receive at 20% discount on tickets to this concert (use code: VETERAN20).
