Police responding to a domestic violence call that began in the 3800 block of Beaumont’s North Major Drive on Feb. 4 ultimately shot and killed the suspect after a pursuit that ended in a ditch more than a mile from where the call originated.

According to the Beaumont Police Department (BPD), at 7:05 a.m., officers responded to reports of an aggravated family violence assault involving a gun. Arriving in the area of the call, officers r e p o r t e d l y observed the male suspect fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed in a silver GMC Sierra pickup truck. A pursuit ensued until the truck crashed in a ditch under Eastex Freeway at the RFD Road underpass.

BPD reported that the suspect, identified as Jeremie Samson Coleman, 37, of Beaumont, exited his vehicle and engaged officers with a firearm. He was pronounced deceased on the scene.

As per BPD policy, the two involved officers, who were not injured, were placed on administrative leave with pay until the investigation is completed and the grand jury makes a decision on the case.
