Beaumont resident Jonathan Mitchell Palmer, 29, was indicted on Jan. 31 with the third-degree felony charge of Terrorism Threats, Impacting Public Services, Public Fear, Subversive Behavior and Influencing Government after posting bomb threats on Twitter on Nov. 20, 2023.

According to the affidavit for Palmer’s arrest warrant, Special Agent Matthew Cryer with the Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division received information about an individual with the username JonathanPa3310 posting bomb threats via their Twitter account.

Cryer located Palmer at the Texan Inn in Beaumont off Eastex Freeway, where the suspect was interviewed and initially denied making threatening posts to social media. Palmer gave officers permission to search his mobile device and officers were able to confirm the suspect’s username matched the one that had made three posts on Twitter stating: “Ima bomb that court house;” “Ima bomb Tyler county;” and “Ima bomb Hardin county.”

On further questioning, Palmer reportedly commented to investigators that he made the threats due to people aggravating him; Palmer said he would take the posts down because he knew they weren’t right.

Cryer’s review of Palmer’s criminal history revealed a conviction for Terroristic Threat of Family/Household in August 2015.

At press time, Palmer remained in custody at the Jefferson County Jail.
