Summer gala

Catholic Diocese of Beaumont will host the second annual For the Good Gala this Saturday evening, June 10, at the Civic Center to a sold-out crowd. Cocktails begin at 6:30 pm, followed by dinner and an amazing six item live auction, culminating with dancing with music provided by the Night & Day Orchestra. While sipping on a delish libation, pursue the silent auction of around 40 funtastic items available for purchase. The money raised from the event will fund education for those working in the ministries that serve our community, including vocations to the priesthood.

Hometown heroes… Monsignor Kelly High School baseball team won the TAPPS state championship last month and our fair city celebrated the phenomenal feat Tuesday evening at the downtown Event Centre. Winning the school’s first ever baseball title was Ryan Brown, Austin Brown, Michael Phelan, Jude Mondello, Gage Lawdermilk, Quintin Oxford, Palmer Simeon, Sam Bevilacqua, Rhett Knox, Huston Hayes, Kaden Wickland, Jared Moulder, Gibson Bitar, Austin Isabell, Caden Madigan, Gabe Freeman, Brendan Manibo, Bryce Feldausen and Matthew Blanchard. So happy for coach Jason Tyner and the school. Making Beaumont proud!

Secret gardens… Over the past few years, several dedicated folks including Becky Stedman, Barbara Wilson, Brenda Beadle and Tootsie Crutchfield have worked diligently to establish a new form of governance at Beaumont Botanical Gardens. A recent formed nonprofit corporation and a current assemblage of Board of Directors from across our area has been established. The goal is to develop the gardens in Tyrrell Park into a major destination for local citizens across Southeast Texas and visitors from afar. Many times, the gardens are referred to as “the best kept secret in Beaumont.” The group will host a Flower Power fundraiser Thursday, June 29. The purchase of a $150 raffle ticket entitles two people to attend the event and chance to win great prizes along with heavy hors d’oeuvres and drinks at the Garden Center building. Raffle prizes include loaded gift cards – $5,000, $1,500 and $1,000. See you there!

Don’t forget… to attend the Art Museum of Southeast Texas Treasure Auction fundraiser tonight at 6:30 p.m. Cat Holtzclaw and Lou Huber are chairing the even. More than 20 local artists, including Jamie Kessler, Amy and Albert Faggard, Gayle Pugh, Casey Smith, Mike Cacioppo, Annie Green, Melody Ortiz, Rob Clark, Marilyn Bell, and many others, have donated their time and talent to making this a successful event. Tickets are available at the door for $50, which includes dinner and libations. Be there!

Looking forward… to I-rule Dance Studio’s performances of “Elvis, the King Rules” this Friday, June 9, at 6:45 p.m. and Saturday, June 10, at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the West Brook High School Performing Arts Center. Tickets are available online at 28811.danceticketing.com.
