It has been months since CASA of the Sabine Neches Region discovered more than $40,000 missing from its coffers, and no charges have yet been filed against Nikki Jones, the former executive director suspected of the theft by peers within the organization. But according to police, that could change very soon.

“We should be ready to present a case to the district attorney in the next week or two,” Orange Police Department Capt. Robert Enmon told The Examiner on July 21.

Port Arthur City Attorney Valecia “Val” Tizeno was threatened with contempt of court charges and sanctions in Judge Larry Gist’s Drug Court on Monday, July 24, for failing to turn over evidence to a defendant’s legal counsel as had been ordered by the court. However, Tizeno says misdirected electronic communication was the impetus of the problem she has every intention of clearing up as soon as possible.

Councilwoman Gethrel “Get” Williams-Wright speaks with Beaumont Mayor Becky Ames

As one councilperson’s tenure as mayor pro tempore ends, another has been chosen to act in that capacity for the city of Beaumont. At-large Councilwoman Gethrel “Get” Williams-Wright will take over as mayor pro tem for Ward 4 Councilwoman Robin Mouton. Mouton continues to serve on city council.

As of 8:30 the morning of Tuesday, July 25, the Port Arthur Fire Department terminated the emergency incident at German Pellets. This incident has been ongoing since April 15, and PAFD has had personnel on-site 24/7. The remaining silo temperatures are in the normal range and cleanup of the site continues. PAFD will continue to attend daily meetings and monitor the site until the remaining silos are empty. This incident is one of the longest in PAFD history lasting 102 days.

More than three years after a violent drunken-driving collision left several wounded and thousands of dollars in damages, Jefferson County attorney Dane Dennison was ordered this past week to begin serving a sentence handed down prior to the defendant exhausting his appeals process.
