A large multidisciplinary team of scientists, equipped with advanced underwater robotics and an array of analytical instrumentation, will set sail for the northeastern Pacific Ocean this August. The team’s mission for NASA and the National Science Foundation (NSF) is to study the life and death of the small organisms that play a critical role in removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and in the ocean’s carbon cycle.

The sweetest little Father’s Day present is here! Less than a year after Houston welcomed Asian elephant calf Joy, a new kid is on the block. June 17 at 2:38 a.m., 35-year-old Asian elephant Tess gave birth to a 345-pound female without complication, and the calf began learning how to nurse within the first few hours. The calf has been named Tilly by the team members who have dedicated their lives to the care, well-being, and conservation of these incredible animals.

Police are investigating a shooting in Orange that injured one person but, according to the Orange Police Department (OPD), the victim does not wish to press charges and would not help identify the shooter.

Beaumont Animal Care (BAC) has released their euthanasia rates for the period of January through May for 2018. 

BAC’s percentage of animals euthanized has declined from 51 percent in 2016 to 21 percent for the same time period in 2018. BAC has been working to reach the goal of 10 percent or less of animals euthanized in the shelter. To meet this goal BAC is asking the public to consider adopting a pet from them. BAC says that they have many “wonderful” dogs and cats that are all fully vaccinated, micro chipped and spayed or neutered prior to adoption.

A 43-year-old Beaumont, Texas woman has pleaded guilty for her part in a conspiracy targeting federal inmates and their families in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney Joseph D. Brown June 14.

Tanya L. Richard pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud before U.S. Magistrate Judge Keith F. Giblin.
