The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) is seeking the public’s help in locating an elementary school’s stolen PA system that may have been abandoned in the area of Henderson Avenue in China between Oct. 23 and 26.

According to JCSO, deputies responded to a burglary at China Elementary that occurred over the weekend preceding Oct. 24. School faculty noticed open doors, missing items and some minor damage to parts of the building.

Upon reviewing security camera footage, two men were seen circling the building on bicycles Sunday evening before they broke into the building, rummaging through several classrooms and the cafeteria and stealing audio equipment. With assistance from school faculty, deputies were able to locate one of the stolen pieces of equipment near a wooded area several miles away.

Oct. 26, deputies located the two bicycles seen in the security camera footage and made contact with two white males: 17-year-old Christopher James Standifer, of China, and 17-year-old Lukas Allen Waller, of Liberty. Both confessed to committing the burglary, JCSO reports.

Anyone with any information as to the whereabouts of the still missing PA system is asked to contact JCSO at (409) 835-8411.
