The 2022-23 season from Port Arthur Little Theatre begins July 29 with “Newsies: The Broadway Musical” at 4701 Jimmy Johnson Blvd. in Port Arthur.

Set in turn-of-the century New York City, “Newsies” is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenage “newsies.” When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Kelly rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what's right.

With music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman and a book by Harvey Fierstein, “Newsies: The Broadway Musical” is based off the 1992 musical film, “Newsies” and was inspired by the Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City. It made its Broadway debut in 2012, where it played for more than 1,000 performances before touring and went on to win two Tony Awards.

Show dates are July 29-31, Aug. 5-7, and Aug. 12-14. The curtain raises at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $11-$15 and can be purchased online at palt.org. For more information, call (409) 727-7258.
