August is heating up

A Tasting for Some Other Place fundraiser will take place Tuesday, Aug. 16, from 5-7 p.m. at the Beaumont Civic Center. Since 1968, Some Other Place has served the area by providing emergency assistance to low/no income families who have faced emergency situations. It was decided by the Board of Directors to host this event in hopes that it would become an annual event with all proceeds going to benefit their work. Thousands of dollars have been raised each year to help to ensure the continuation of the work of Some Other Place and this is their only fundraising endeavor of the year. The 20th “tasting” will once again be coordinated by Paula O’Neal and Susan Legnion. More than 40 booths will be hosted by local businesses, congregations and civic organizations, who will serve foods such as shrimp, stuffed peppers, St. Mark’s Famous Chili, brisket from 1701 Barbecue and strawberry shortcake. Some of the participants include the Apartment Association of Southeast Texas, Apostolic Church, Baptist Hospitals of SETX, Broussard’s Mortuary, Calder Baptist Church, Calder Woods, Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital, Claybar Funeral Home, Cooks 2 Dozen, DuGood Federal Credit Union, First Baptist Church, Henry’s Place, North End Baptist Church, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, St. Anne’s Catholic Church, St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica Catholic Church, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, St. Michael’s Orthodox Church, Seafarer’s Center of Beaumont, Stewart Title, Temple Emanuel, Westgate Church of Christ and Wesley United Methodist Church. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at SOP, which is located at 1240 McFaddin St. in Beaumont, as well as participating congregations or area Jason’s Deli restaurants. Entertainment will be provided by The Mid-Life Crisis band. There will also be a silent auction for a beautiful painting donated by artist Mike Cacioppo. This will also be the final year of Legnion’s service as the chair of the event. She has been on the committee for the last two decades. This will also be the last “Tasting” for O’Neal, the director who is retiring after 40 years. See you at this incredible fundraiser!
