The Samaritan Counseling Center of Southeast Texas hosted their fourth annual the “Not So Newlywed Game” last Thursday evening at the Downtown Event Centre. Board President Marsha Worthy welcomed guests along with Donna Greer. Kim Moncla presented Evelyn Lord, our fair city’s former mayor, with the Carlita Zummo Servant Leader in Southeast Texas Award for all of her contributions and support of the counseling center. Hosted by Mary Ann and Robert Reid alongside Paisley Ware, celebrity couples that took part in the Newlywed Game were Misty and Brent Goodridge, Sara and Paul Norman, Janelle and Mitch Templeton and Becky and Johnny Trahan. Judges were Sherri and Jeff Branick, Naomi Doyle and Craig Lively. Congrats to the Goodridge family on winning the game! Having a blast were Pat Klein, Zach Stiles, Regina Rogers, Maureen Winchell, Kim Phelan, Roy West and too many more to mention. A cute night for a great cause!
On their toes… the youth showed off their talent last weekend all over our fair city. Sunday afternoon, Beaumont Civic Ballet performed “The Wizard of Oz” at the Julie Rogers Theatre. Thrilled with this production were Kim and Brian Jaynes, Kelly and Justin Jackson, Peggy Starnes, Sherry and Tommy Goth, Ashley and Greg Messina, Sara and Jeff Leger, Brandi and Margo Coffin, Lisa and Ray Callas, Dawn and Gene Isabell, Tiffany and Jimmy Neale, Debbie and Farrell Smith, Brittany and Brian Johnson, Stephanie and Caroline Gertz, Hillary and Olivia Shanning, Tara and Justin Audilet, Lisa and Brian Matthews and so many others. Monique Zummo Steinhagen and Megan Forgas Anderson did another outstanding job! iRule dance held their “Rock and Rule Musical” (performing many songs from “Grease,” “Bye Bye Birdie” and “Happy Days”) on Saturday afternoon on their outdoor stage.
Super Bowl fun… Gerald Farha and Greg Austin hosted a gathering in the latter parents’ home before it hits the for-sale market. So many have 50 years of memories from events and parties in the home of Virginia and Jim Austin. Rooting for both the Rams and Bengals were Janice Austin, Jonathan Austin, Julie Casanova, Christy and Mike Persia, Becki and Ed Stedman, Vivian and Jerry Todd, Margi and Rocky Chase, Paige Windham, Marilyn and Tom Bell, Cullen Ramsey, Jenny and Mickey Shuffield, Cathy and John Hawa, Chris Bean, Lee and Scott Mann, just to name a few. Delish food and fantastic fellowship!
So excited… about the Junior League of Beaumont’s annual Dancing with the Stars of Southeast Texas on March 4. This year’s contestants and their dance instructors are Chelsea Brandimarte and Will Leonard (Bonnie Cokinos School of Dance), Ava Graves and Aaron Drawhorn (iRule), Jessica Hill and John Nickum (Power House Dance Academy), Latisha Hunter and Marc McDonald (Ashland’s Affirming Arts Studio), Allie Kelley and Peter Hoang (Exygon Health and Fitness), Tiffany Neale and Bryan Gaspard (Marsha Woody Academy of Dance), Kelly Roebuck and Ethan Welch (The Movement Performing Arts Studio) and Stephanie Vanskike and Nicholas Phillips (West Brook Stars). All the couples are hoping the audience will donate money for a great cause as well as claim the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy. See you at the Civic Center!
We all scream for ice cream... the Junior League also honored their Neches River Festival Princess Morgan Miles at a recent ice cream social. Brenna Rodriguez, Katie Baker, Kara Hawthorn, Paula Lovoi, Cathy Spidle, Gwen Young, Sara Norman, Mandy Street, Courtney White, Melinda McWherter as well as several NRF princesses and duchesses who all enjoyed themselves immensely.
On the run… Don’t forget to register and participate in the “Capes & Crowns 5K Run” hosted by the Neches River Festival and Mardi Gras Southeast Texas on Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Event Centre (700 Crockett St.). The free kids’ 1K begins at 8:30 a.m. followed by the 5K at 9 a.m. Registration is $25-$30.
