Mardi Gras season is inching closer and closer. This year’s Mardi Gras Brunch has been announced for Sunday, Feb. 27, at the Downtown Event Centre featuring our own master musician Jimmy Simmons. Tickets are $30, which includes brunch by Rao’s Bakery, two drink tickets and entry into Mardi Gras of Southeast Texas. Doors will open at 11 a.m. See you there!

Speaking of master musicians… The Symphony of Southeast Texas announced their next show, “Passion: Struggle and Resolution,” on Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Julie Rogers Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Maestro Chelsea Tipton II will lead the orchestra and will be joined by Claire Huangci, who performed in Beaumont with the symphony in 2019. Deb season… The 2022 Symphony League Debutante season is approaching and Michele Smith helped jumpstart the festivities with the yearly informationals meeting last Sunday at The Laurels. During the meeting, introduced were Lauren Martin (Deb chair-elect), Christine Stetson (escort chair), Gillian Jenkins and Nicole Saba (Deb ball co-chairs), Carol Smith and Kathryn Messina (presentation co-chairs), Julia Matheny (reservations’ chair), Kelly Jackson, (programs’ chair), Sandy Eaves (treasurer), Laurie Kent (invitation chair), Shawn Hickman (underwriting chair), Annie Green (publicity chair), Stephanie Gertz (Symphony League of Southeast Texas President) and Kate Davis (Symphony League President-elect). High school seniors who will be participating in the debutante season are Mary Josephine Broussard, who was escorted by Andrew Gibson Bitar; Kathleen Burns Jabbia, who was escorted by Vincent Noble Mazzola; Emma Grace Kiker, who escorted by Rhett Allyn Knox; Lauren Marie Lambert; who escorted by Bryan Walter Hansen; Sophia Anne Madden, who escorted by Riley Jackson Little; Grayson Elle Mainwaring escorted by Ashton Stedman Ohmstede; and Olivia Mary Frances Shanning; who escorted by Walker David Snider. Before the Debs take center stage, the Symphony League Belles and Beaus will have their moment Saturday, Feb. 5, at the “Bloom Where You Are Planted” Symphony Ball at the Beaumont Civic Center. Engaging event… Caroline Owens and James Parker were recently feted in celebration of their engagement. Hopheads… join event planner Carrie DeLea and others at 5 Under’s Craft Beer Fest on Saturday, Jan. 29. This family-friend outdoor affair is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and including live music, exotic petting zoo for the kiddos and, of course, great beers for the adults.

First Thursdays on Calder… takes place next Thursday, Feb. 3, from 5-9 p.m. Enjoy live music along with shopping and dining discounts. Peruse local artisans displaying their wares on the covered sidewalk of the historic Mildred Building. Enjoy eats from the likes of Katharine & Co., Tacos La Bamba and New York Pizza and Pasta. Sure shot… The Cardiovascular Foundation of Southeast Texas will host their sixth annual “Clays for Cardio” fundraiser Saturday, Feb. 19, at the 1-in-10 Gun Club in Lumberton. Enjoy live music, silent auction, children’s activities and delicious gumbo. Registration for this great cause can be done online at setxcardiofound.com.

Now is the time… to start making plans to attend the 40th annual Taste of the Triangle 2022 on Tuesday, March 1.
